1. What is Residencia Definitiva? |
It is a permit to live permanently in Chile that allows to engage in any lawful activity with no restrictions other than those imposed by the legal and regulatory provisions. |
2. How can I request it? |
Log in with ClaveÚnica to tramites.serviciomigraciones.cl or create an account on the Servicio Nacional de Migraciones website and select the option “Solicitud de Residencia Definitiva”. Fill out the application form and upload the requested documention. 4. Do I receive a confirmation when I submit my application? |
After submitting your application for a Residencia Definitiva permit, you will receive an email with the subject "Comprobante de Envío Solicitud de Residencia Definitiva" (the one declared in your application).This document only serves to confirm receipt of your application and may not be used for any other purpose. |
5. What document should I receive once my application has been submitted? |
Once your application has been reviewed and found to meet the requirements, the "Certificado de Residencia Definitiva en Trámite" will be emailed to you confirming your legal residence in the country. This document allows you to continue engaging in LAWFUL REMUNERATED ACTIVITIES AUTHORIZED BY YOUR PREVIOUS RESIDENCE PERMIT, as well as to leave and enter national territory, in accordance with Art. 63 of the Migración y Extranjera Regulations. *Please see the preceding image for an example of how the confirmation looks. |

8. How can I check the status of my application? |
You can check the status of your application by using Consulta de Estado de Beneficios Migratorios or by dialing 101, then option 5, and then option 4. |
9. How do I request for my pending application to be extended? |
To request an extension, go to Trámites Digitales and choose "Ampliación de Certificado de Residencia Definitiva en Trámite" and begin with ClaveÚnica. |

10. What document should I expect to receive once my Residencia Definitiva has been granted? |
When your Permanent Residence is granted, you will be notified by email along with the exempt resolution "Otorga la Residencia Definitiva en el país". |
11. What should I do after receiving my Residencia Definitiva? |
When the benefit is granted, it is automatically and internally registered at the Policía de Investigaciones de Chile (PDI). You must, however, schedule an appointment at the Registro Civil e Identificación within 30 working days of downloading your certificate. |
12. Can I lose my Residencia Definitiva once it has been granted? |
The Residencia Definitiva will be tacitly revoked if the foreigner is out of the country for more than two years without requesting an extension at the respective Chilean consulate within sixty days of its expiration. This extension will only be granted once and will last for two years. |
